Ulaanbaatar [Heightened state of readiness extended until May 31]

At its 20th meeting held today, State Emergency Commission of Mongolia made a decision to extend the period of heightened state of readiness until May 31 to prevent from the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

The suspension of international passenger flight and movements of the country’s vehicle crossing border checkpoints for passengers and other types of restrictions imposed in the country amid COVID-19 are extended to May 31 within the decision.

“Despite the fact that no local transmission is detected in the country and the 38 confirmed COVID-19 cases are all imported by people returning from abroad, who were put under isolation immediately after their arrival, Mongolia remains at high risk of COVID-19 outbreak” says U.Enkhtuvshin, Head of the State Emergency Commission and Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia when introducing the decision.

The SEC is also expected to discuss in the near future about issues concerning the gradual opening of some vocational and other classroom training activities, and preparations for the export shipments of mining products through Sukhbaatar-Bichigt and Khovd-Bulgan border checkpoints.
