At the cabinet meeting dated April 28, Deputy Prime Minister and Chair of the State Emergency Commission S.Amarsaikhan and Minister of Health S.Enkhbold delivered a presentation on the COVID-19 situation in the country and response measures.
As of 7 PM, April 27, a total of 744,564 people have received the first dose of vaccines against COVID-19, equal to 36 percent of the nationwide vaccination target – around 2 million adult populations– 60 percent of the total population of Mongolia. Also, 262,466 people have gotten their second shots. In Ulaanbaatar city, 592,362 people have received the first dose and 253,321 people have gotten the second jabs.
The government gave an order to the State and Capital City Emergency Commissions to complete vaccinating around 1.1 million adult populations living in Ulaanbaatar city with the vaccines’ first doses by the time of the ongoing strict lockdown, which will be lifted on May 8.
The public vaccine rollout, which resumed on April 24 after around a two-week break, has been giving first doses of vaccines to people aged above 55 and second shots to those who were not able to receive on schedule due to the suspension. Starting April 28, today, all groups of the age of the vaccination target – people aged over 18 years old starting to receive their first and/or second shots of the vaccine against COVID-19.
Currently, Mongolia has received a total of 1,760,540 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including 214,800 doses of AstraZeneca via India’s assistance and COVAX Facility, 1,500,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine from China through donation and procurement, and 20,000 doses of Sputnik-V vaccine purchased from Russia and 25,740 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine via COVAX Facility.
MP D.Tsogtbaatar today informed that another 40,000 doses of Sputnik-V vaccine ordered by Mongol Em Impex pharmaceutical company from Russia will arrive in Mongolia on April 30. The State Emergency Commission has also reported that Mongolia established an agreement with Russia to purchase a total of 1 million doses of Sputnik-V vaccine from Russia, which is expected to arrive by mid-May. Moreover, Russia has pledged to provide 300,000 doses of the Sputnik-V vaccine to Mongolia as humanitarian assistance.
