On 8th May 2020, Pol.Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, joined the meeting of the BMA’s Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration No. 38/2020.
The meeting reported on the current situation regarding the spread of the COVID-19 virus on 8th May 2020. In Bangkok, no new COVID-19 case was found, the total confirmed cases were 1,526. None of the hospitalized patients were yet recovered and discharged from hospitals. The total number of recovered cases was 1,434. 70 patients were undergoing treatment in hospitals. There was no additional death and the total deaths stayed at 24.
The meeting had discussed on situations after the announcement of lenient measures, which allow some activities or places to reopen for the public. Although, they needed to comply with lenient measures but some establishments were neglected and failed to strictly comply with the measures, which might lead to the recurrence rate of COVID-19. Therefore, the BMA has directed all related departments and offices in localities to notify and request for a strict cooperation from establishments in their responsible areas. If it is found that any establishments frequently fail to comply with the lenient measures, they will face legal proceeding, in order to successfully prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Moreover, the discussion also covered the use of BMA’s public park services. After the reopening of public parks, many visitors came to the parks for services and exercises. However, some of them did not comply with the measures, for example, did not wear face masks during the time in public parks, did not practice physical distancing during workout session and while sitting and resting, performed group exercise, gathered in groups to chat and eat, and some of them trespassed on the closed section to use the workout equipment. All of this actions were found and the public park users had already notified and warned by the park officers.
The BMA then would like to warn all visitors of Bangkok’s public parks that if they failed to comply with and continue to neglect the lenient measures, the BMA may consider the need to cancel the service of all parks.
