On 12th May 2020, Pol.Lt.Gen. Sopon Pisuttiwong, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, presided over the meeting of the BMA’s Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration, No. 39/2020.
The meeting reported current situation of the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on 12th May 2020. In Bangkok, one new COVID-19 case was confirmed with the total confirmed cases of 1,529. 2 patients were recovered and discharged and the total recovered cases were 1,459. 45 patients were undergoing treatment in hospitals with 1 additional death on 9th May 2020, which brought the total number of deaths to 25.
From the inspection of establishments and places that have granted leniency, most of them were complied with lenient measures without trouble, except for the use of public parks. Although the BMA has conducted screening test of all public park users based on lenient measures, there were still several people who neglect and fail to abide by the measures notified by the BMA. For example, a lot of people did not wear face masks while spending time in public parks, did not practice physical distancing during workout session and while sitting and resting, continued to perform group exercise, some gathered in groups to chat and eat, and some of them trespassed on the closed section to use the workout equipment. They disobeyed and failed to comply with the warnings made by the park officers.
Therefore, committee members of the BMA’s Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration assigned City Law Enforcement Department to work in collaboration with police officers and Internal Security Operations Command of the BMA in arranging officers to strictly check on park users, especially in the morning and evening which are the times that a large number of people used the parks. If any park users found violating the measures they will be asked to leave the park and if many people violate measures or ignore advice from park officers, the committee members may propose the BMA to cancel the service of all parks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
