For their outstanding work during the pandemic, all healthcare workers can use transportation for free operated by MÁV Hungarian State Railways and VOLÁNBUSZ Transport Company. In addition to the previously mentioned providers, the Budapest Transport Centre also provides free travel to healthcare professionals, contributing to the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
How can healthcare workers prove that they are eligible to travel for free?
Eligibility for unlimited free travel:
- a certificate issued by the healthcare provider or by the relevant controlling authority, or
- by official certificate issued to persons qualified in healthcare which authorizes them to provide medical services.
- If none of the above is available for the passenger, traveling free of charge is allowed by presenting “Travel Vouchers”, valid for 12 times per year issued by the healthcare provider or controlling authority in 2019 or 2020, alongside the individual presenting their identity card and address card.
The validation for passes, certificates and vouchers which are currently valid until 31 March 2020 will be extended 15 days after the end of the emergency. The Travel Voucher is not registered during ticket inspections.
The BKK asks healthcare professionals to always keep the listed documents with them while traveling. Free travel is available until the end of the state of emergency is declared.
